Product background and photos with AI

Studio photography costs money and time, and a seller has dozens of cards to fill. AI covers most of that product photography: it removes the background, puts the product on a clean backdrop, moves it into a room setting, and can even show it on a model. You'll still need to shoot the product yourself — but one honest phone shot turns into a whole set of photos for the card.

Three background jobs

  • Clean background. A white or colored backdrop for the main photo — a baseline requirement on almost every platform.
  • Product in a setting. A mug on a table, a chair in a room, a cream jar on a bathroom shelf — a shot where the buyer sees the product "at home".
  • Model with the product. Clothing, accessories, gadgets in someone's hands — the trickiest and riskiest option (see below).

Where you need a real shot

AI builds out the scene around the product but shouldn't change the product itself. Color, texture, logo, text on the packaging, the number of items in the bundle — all of that has to come from the real photo. If the model "adds" a detail that isn't actually there, that's a straight path to returns and complaints. Check faces and hands in model photos separately: that's where artifacts give away a fake the fastest.

How to ask so it comes out clean

Specify the surface, the light and the angle: "product on light gray concrete, soft daylight from the side, top-down view at 45°". The more specific the scene, the less the AI "improvises", and the closer the shot gets to a proper catalog photo.

What's next

For a deeper dive into pure photography techniques — product shots, products in a setting, models with the product — see the marketplace chapter in the image generation guide. Your finished photo then goes into the infographic, and platform sizes are covered in the Wildberries and Ozon chapter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a product photo for a card with AI?
AI covers most of the product photography: it removes the background, puts the product on a clean backdrop, moves it into a setting, and can show it on a model. One honest phone shot turns into a whole set of photos. You can swap the background and build the photo in the Twelver chat: upload a shot and describe the scene.
How do I replace the background of a product photo?
Upload a shot and describe the backdrop or scene, specifying the surface, light and angle: "product on light gray concrete, soft daylight from the side, top-down view at 45°". The more specific the scene, the less the AI "improvises", and the closer the shot gets to a proper catalog photo.
Can I replace a product background for free?
Yes — the first generations are free after signing up on Twelver, which is enough to put a product on a clean background and try a couple of scenes.
Can AI change the actual product in a photo?
It shouldn't. Color, texture, logo, text on the packaging and the number of items in the bundle are all supposed to come from the real photo — if the model "adds" a detail that isn't there, that's a path to returns and complaints. Check faces and hands in model photos separately.

You can replace the background and build product photos in the Twelver chat: upload a shot and describe the scene. The first generations are free after signup.
