Make a banner with AI: exact sizes for websites and Google AdsImage generation with a neural network — the big guide

Make a banner with AI

A banner differs from any other picture in one way: it has an exact size, and it's not up for debate. 728 × 90 for a leaderboard above the content, 1200 × 500 for a website slider, 300 × 250 for a rectangle in the sidebar. Miss by ten pixels and the banner won't upload, or it gets cropped so the button disappears.

So here a banner is built as a layout, not as a generated picture. The canvas is set to exactly the pixels you need, the network draws the background or the product, and the headline, price and button are set as real text on top — no typos, and every line can be moved or replaced without redrawing the image.

What to write so the banner works first time

  1. The exact size in pixels — "1200 × 500", not "wide". If you need several sizes, list them all at once.
  2. Where it will go — a website, an ad network, a social media page, a newsletter.
  3. The text word for word — headline, subheading, button text. The shorter the better: banners are read on the move.
  4. What's in the picture — your product (upload a photo), a person, a scene. Or just colour and typography.
  5. Brand colours and logo, if you have them.

How to describe the picture itself so it sells rather than just looks nice is covered in the chapter on ad creatives.

Banner sizes for Google Ads

Uploaded image ads in Google Ads are accepted only at fixed sizes. According to Google's specifications as of 19 September 2026, these are:

ShapeSizes, px
Squares and rectangles200 × 200, 240 × 400, 250 × 250, 250 × 360, 300 × 250, 336 × 280, 580 × 400
Skyscrapers120 × 600, 160 × 600, 300 × 600, 300 × 1050
Leaderboards468 × 60, 728 × 90, 930 × 180, 970 × 90, 970 × 250, 980 × 120
Mobile300 × 50, 320 × 50, 320 × 100

Set the canvas to the slot size. The banner exports at double pixel density, so a 300 × 250 canvas gives a 600 × 500 file — sharp on high-density screens, but not one of the sizes above. Before uploading, scale the file back to 300 × 250 in any image editor.

File weight for Google Ads: up to 150 KB

Google accepts uploaded image ads as GIF, JPG or PNG up to 150 KB. A simple banner with a colour block and text fits easily once it's at slot size; a detailed photo background can come out heavier — then re-save the file as JPG or run it through any online compressor before uploading.

Banners for websites and social media

Websites have no single standard: the banner size is set by your template. Ask your developer or check the size of the current banner — and name it in your request. The same goes for a social media cover: take the size from the platform's own help page and name it.

One idea — every size

An ad campaign rarely makes do with one format. Once the first banner is approved, the rest are assembled from the same layers: "now the same in 300 × 600 and 728 × 90". The images aren't generated again — the layout changes, and the product stays the same product at every size.

Every variant is rendered in a browser and checked before you see it: is the text clipped, is there enough contrast, has the button run into the edge. On a narrow 728 × 90 strip this is especially useful — that's where the headline most often doesn't fit.

The same approach works for posters and business cards.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a banner with AI?
Give the exact size in pixels, the placement and the text word for word, and describe the picture or upload a product photo. The canvas is built at exactly that size: the network draws the image, and the headline and button go on as real text — no typos. You can try it in Twelver.
What banner sizes does Google Ads accept?
According to Google's specifications as of 19 September 2026, uploaded image ads are accepted at 200×200, 240×400, 250×250, 250×360, 300×250, 336×280, 580×400, 120×600, 160×600, 300×600, 300×1050, 468×60, 728×90, 930×180, 970×90, 970×250, 980×120, 300×50, 320×50 and 320×100, as GIF, JPG or PNG up to 150 KB.
Can I make several sizes of one banner at once?
Yes. After the first variant is approved, ask for the same layers in other sizes — for example 300×600 and 728×90. The images are not regenerated; only the layout changes, so the product and style stay the same across every format.
Can I make a banner for free?
You can put the banner together and see the result on starter tokens: they arrive on your first visit, and signing up adds more. Downloading the finished file opens after your first purchase.
Why won't Google Ads accept my banner?
Most often because of size or weight: the file must match one of the supported sizes exactly and weigh no more than 150 KB. The file exported here is at double pixel density, so scale it back to the slot size first; if a PNG with a photo is still too heavy, re-save it as JPG.
